Tasks

DK International Associates, Inc. (DKIA) is seeking a skilled machinist and CNC programmer to lead a diversified fabrication team in its Fort Lauderdale facility.  DKIA is a contract manufacturing company offering CNC machining and turning, laser-cutting, electrical assembly, kitting and product development to its diverse client base in the manufacturing industry.

The Machine Shop Manager leads new manufacturing process developments and manufacturing initiatives as well as supporting daily production needs for the department and its personnel. CNC programming for vertical milling, 5-axis milling, lathes and laser cutting along with associated fixturing design and fabrication is a critical requirement of this position.  Additionally, this role is expected to design, develop, and continuously improve processes around CNC machinery and other fabrication capabilities to increase efficiency and quality of production.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Improve manufacturing processes through daily analysis of activities including tooling selections, cutting & programming processes/techniques, improved fixturing, internal communications, supply chain selection/coordination and documentation.
  • Capacity and capabilities planning to support company growth and capabilities.
  • Provide backlog planning and daily scheduling of work in accordance with customer expectations.
  • Support sourcing of production needs if required to meet customer expectations (e.g., outsourcing to strategic partners).
  • Manage and develop employees to meet schedules and expected quality levels as well as continually develop and train them to reach their fullest potential.
  • Quote jobs and report results to Program Manager.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle and manage several priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to be able to switch from production to prototype and back.
  • Follow production schedule and coordinate with Program Manager. Alert him in the event of any delays or material shortages.
  • Working knowledge of all machine tools and be able to program, set up and operate.
  • Working knowledge of cutting tool geometry and grade classifications.
  • Ability to use offline software to program machines.
  • Dealing with customers both internal and external. To include tooling and material vendor.
  • Solicit new customers.
  • Negotiate pricing for tooling and material vendors for long term and build relationships.
  • Making sure all incoming materials are identified with tracking numbers.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all machines.
  • Ability to interview, hire and terminate employee(s) in coordination with company policies.
  • Adherence to all safety policies and promote safety in the shop area.

Requirements

Associates degree from two-year college or university in mechanical, industrial or process engineering or equivalent manufacturing experience.

  • Minimum four years related manufacturing or process engineer experience
  • Machining experience required running different types of CNC equipment (Lathes, 3 or 5 axis mills, multitasking machines)
  • Software experience:
    • Experience programming CNC code on software – SolidCam or Mazatrol required
    • Ability to learn programming for Laser using EdgeLaser
  • Ability to run a CNC machine required (Mazak VC500A 5axis machining center, Nexus 510C-II vertical machining center, 205MSY CNC Quick Turn Turning Center)
  • Ability to read programming code required
  • Experience with production processes like milling, cutting, forming or assembly
  • Ability to read manufacturing prints (dimensioning and geometric constrains)
  • Hands on experience how to measure and control parts towards prints
  • Experience with measuring tools (calibers, micrometers, indicators, gauge blocks, pins, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of cutting tool designs and styles used in turning and milling is required
  • Ability to use CAD (2D and 3D) drawing programs to sketch designs for simple components, work holding and to adjust part models; ability to use 3D CAD models as input for CAM programs to create parts
  • Other software requirements: Microsoft Office (SolidWorks a plus and/or experience with other CAD/CAM software)
