We’re looking for a Site Health and Safety Advisor to be a vital part of a major site services project on a high-impact industrial site in Alberta. Key Responsibilities
• Be familiar with Taurus’ Safety Management System as it relates to their work area.
• Working with the project worksite supervisor(s), identify potential and actual HSE concerns on the worksite.
• Participate and assist in formal worksite observations, site tours, and site inspections.
• Perform job observations on equipment, work areas, and site personnel.
• Conduct HSE work site inspections with client reps, site managers and/or supervisors as per client requirements while ensuring Taurus and client incident reporting protocols are followed.
• Communicate up to date information such as alerts and bulletins regarding the Safety Management System to site personnel, operations managers, clients, and subcontractors.
• Promote a safe and healthy workplace by providing a visible presence on worksites and inspections to support Taurus employees and subcontractors in complying with occupational HSE legislation, industry standards, the Taurus Safety Management System and client requirements.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with worksite employees, contractors, site supervisors, and client representatives by ensuring timely communication and response to their needs.
• Know, understand, and comply with all relevant legal requirements, company policies, standards, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Provide up to date information to staff about all known or reasonably foreseeable hazards to health and safety in the areas where employees are working and of any relevant changes in legal requirements, safety polices, standards, procedures, or safe work practices.
• When necessary, aid with and/or response to emergency response crisis situations as they arise.
• Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
• High School diploma and OH&S designation (CSO, NCSO, etc.). Working toward or holding CRSP certification an asset.
• High diligence, organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, good written and verbal communication skills, good attendance, sound judgment skills, and general computer knowledge.
• Drug and alcohol test, CSTS 2020, and WHMIS.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a safety practitioner with progressive health & safety experience working in a heavy industrial construction environment. Current knowledge of OH&S legal requirements.
• Experience in providing health and safety training and conducting incident investigations.
• Intermediate working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Valid Driver’s license and authorized driver as defined by Taurus’s requirements.
Working Conditions
• Full-time site-based position located in the Heartland region.
• Must have ability to work extended shifts depending on project needs.
• Drug and alcohol test required, CSTS 2020 and WHMIS.
